The Scare were almost snapped up instantly by small label Smash Music back in 2003 when the band were literally kids, some of the members being the age I currently am (17, for people wondering). Back then they were a seven piece band, with dual guitar shredding, vocals to make you cringe, and just a whole sense of fun but in a really bad way about them. Masochist Mimes was the name of the debut EP and it featured a very interesting cover photo. After the release the band only became bigger, supporting the likes of The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower and spastic legends, Blood Brothers.
With a little bit of a line-up change (Wade, ex-Taking Sides took over bass duties) a the drop of one member, the band were now a 6 piece. Late 2005 mark the release of the bands follow-up EP, Vacuum Irony. This time around the guys focussed more on the keyboard side of things and heading more in a listener friendly CD. They pulled it off too, to the bands surprise, people pratically everywhere were lapping this one up.
Now, 4 years after their debut release and a (very) brave move to relocate to the UK, and to drop their keyboardist (which now brings them to a normal 5 members), the band have just dropped their third EP, Bats! Bats! Bats!. Since moving to the UK they have only been welcomed with open arms and have continued to rise and rise. The release of the new EP will see the band plunging their way into semi-mainstream. The bands (long overdue) debut album, Chivalry, will be released in late September, and me thinks it could be a huge contender for Album Of The Year.
